Sophie Buxton

Sophie Buxton is an artist living and working in the North East of England and she is a member of Bank Studios, North Shields, where she has her studio. 

Her practice brings together things, objects, drawing, people, places, incidents, observations, in collections and montages of materials. Her work negotiates narratives within these relationships and experiments with ways of thinking around sharing, kindness, intimacy and gentle observation.            

She has recently worked with Fritha Jenkins, Holly Argent and Women Artists of North East Library, and TOTALLER, and made work in conversation with Giles Bailey, Catrin Huber and Alan Boxshall. Since 2017 Sophie has also led on the production of ArtHouses, an annual event in which artworks are hosted in the homes of people living in Whitley Bay.
